How to find YOUR perfect diet

Regardless of how many scientific studies or new diet revolutions come out, there can never be one perfect diet for anyone…ever. This is true even if a diet comes from your favourite slim celebrity.

Just a few of the reasons there can never be one perfect diet is because:

  1. We inevitably age
  2. The weather changes
  3. Our stress levels rise and fall
  4. Our constantly changing physical & mental activity

It is for these and many other fluctuating reasons that our nutritional needs (and cravings) constantly change. These changing nutritional requirements are to keep the body in a state of perfect balance – aka homeostasis.

The diet that may have worked perfectly for you when you were 20 may be completely different to the one that will work for you now.

What we can say with certainty is that whole, unprocessed, fresh foods and plenty of pure water will always be good for you. Many people know this already, but what most people don’t know is that the ratios of carbohydrates, proteins and fats (the macronutrients) required by the body can change quickly.

The only way to determine the foods and ratios of macronutrients that work best for your body on an on-going basis is to listen to your body and understand how it reacts. This means that you need to learn the difference between:

• Feeling stuffed with food vs. feeling satisfied with nutrients
• Feeling high on caffeine vs. feeling naturally energised from foods
• The need for another entire serving or just a couple of fish oil capsules to leave you feeling fully satisfied

Your body provides constant feedback that tells you whether the meal, snack or beverage you last consumed was right for YOU. To help, all of these reactions are clearly outlined in BBB.

BBB explains how you will react (in both the short and long term) if you’ve had too many carbs or overdone the protein and fat.

BBB helps you recognise the signs & symptoms of poor digestion & health that often lead to weight gain, this way you can avoid the common pitfalls and always feel in the ‘Power Zone’ – an optimal state of health where:

  1. Cravings for sugar and caffeine are permanently squashed
  2. Your mouth, mind and stomach are completely satisfied
  3. Your thoughts are clear & sharp
  4. You feel emotionally uplifted

BBB also shows you how to manage changing situations, empowering you to make the BEST possible choices wherever you are while still losing weight.

While there is no perfect diet, you can always make smarter, healthier choices by understanding what good nutrition is, and more importantly, how your body reacts.

The BEST form of coffee for Weight Loss

Coffee and Cream

The BEST form of coffee for weight loss is an organic espresso with a small amount of the thickest, most raw and real cream you can get your hands on, or a dash of organic milk if cream isn’t available.

Coffee is a heavily sprayed crop (sprayed up to 17 times!). The artificial chemicals slowly but surely accumulate in your tissues, including your poor liver.

This means your liver can’t do it’s other job of breaking down your fats efficiently.

So if you’re a regular coffee drinker and would like to lose weight a little faster start drinking organic coffee…if you want to lose even more weight try making the rest of your diet organic too. Now that you’re aware of it you’ll be surprised at how many organic coffee places are popping up.

In reference to the cream, that’s fresh cream NOT sweetened aerosol cream, it is actually one of the BEST (if not the BEST) foods you can do to squash a carbohydrate craving, one reason those 1950s starlets and women of the era generally, stayed so slim.

When you have a short black or skinny cap you may enjoy a better buzz, but be aware of how the rest of your day’s eating goes from there.

I doubt anyone will give up his or her coffee after reading this. The great news is that you don’t need to! Check the Golden Rules in your ‘Breakfast Principles’ to see the ideal order you should consume your caffeine so that all of it’s benefits (and less of its negatives) can be enjoyed.

Finally, don’t be fooled by the marketing campaigns, just because a drink is called ‘skinny’ does not mean it will make you skinny. There are very good reasons for the low-fat diet dying back in the 1990s.

Bottom line – Learn to listen to your body and observe your own habits. This is the core philosophy of BBB.

Why not share this with all your Skinny drinking pals.

How the Skinny Cap made us fat!

Just give me my coffee and leave me alone

It’s no secret: food-marketing geniuses use many tricks and deceptions to create a false impression of the nutritional value of many foods & drinks in order to make more profits.

Of all the tricks that have deceived us over the years, ‘skinny’ coffees (cappuccinos/lattes/flat whites and more) are right up there with soft drinks that claim ‘zero’ sugar, fat or negative side-effects.

A skinny cap, or any other skim milk coffee, may sound like the perfect drink. With a skinny coffee you get:

  1. The buzz – That pleasant rush for your body and brain. This lift makes you feel a sense of euphoria and, for a time, you feel mentally sharper – perfect for a day at the desk.
  2. Low calories – Good for the waistline, right?
  3. Taste – Most importantly a well-made coffee when served with the perfect amount of warm milk and froth is incredibly enjoyable and comforting – Heaven in a cup.

Caffeine (most commonly consumed as coffee) is enjoyed by 90% of Australian adults, but I’m afraid to tell you there are some flaws with our favourite morning beverage, especially those in ‘Skinny’ form.

  1. Let’s first talk about the buzz – The jolt experienced is due to a ‘Grande’ release of adrenaline, cortisol and other stimulating hormones. Experiencing this jolt is great 30-45 minutes before a monster workout, but before a day at the desk this will most likely lead to an insulin-spike soon followed by a massive insulin crash. This often leads to cravings for more caffeine, or refined carbs and/or sugar, and these are a major contributor to excess love handles (discreetly check yours now).
  2. Low in calories – Sounds nice, but when you soon after gorge yourself on the nearest empty, carb-loaded snack (such as a pastry, muffin, biscuit or cake) to bring your blood sugar levels back to normal, these empty calories quickly flood the fat cells.
  3. When you have a coffee without any protein or fat (from say whole milk or cream) and on an empty stomach, not only can it lead to potential stomach ulcers, IBS & smelly backend gas bombs, but a steeper insulin-spike, which inevitably leads to an even stepper energy crash and ‘Step-over-your-own-Mother-to-get-them’ carb cravings.

It is this final point that makes the skinny cap a poorer option. Just like butter, full-cream milk has received an unfair, inaccurate presentation in the market. Skim milk is so deficient in essential nutrients (mainly essential fats and vitamins A, D, E & K) its technical name is ‘Milk Water’. Paying for a little white water in your coffee seems crazy, right?

Here are the facts:

  • Natural fats fill you up faster and taste amazing. Two good reasons Mother Nature put them there in the first place.
  • Lower levels of fat in the diet have lead to an increase in global obesity levels.
  • When you don’t eat whole-foods, including whole milk, your body is starved of essential fats and nutrients. The past 30 ‘Low-Fat’ years have proven the body will find a way to maintain balance, usually with a mid-morning or late night binge.
  • Mother Nature didn’t make any mistakes when she put fat in food. Can the same be said of food chemists in laboratories? …I’m not so sure.
  • Those with healthy, lean, fit bodies don’t diet, they keep well-hydrated and consume real foods. In contrast, lifelong dieters will tend to count calories…forever.

BOTTOM LINE – If you don’t eat enough natural fat you won’t feel full. You will feel constantly hungry, you’ll keep eating and pile on the pounds.

If you don’t feel fully satisfied after 3-4 hours after a skinny coffee, try full-cream milk and see how you feel. Tune in tomorrow to learn the BEST form of coffee so you can enjoy all of the highs without any of the lows.
